Madonna di Senales is the largest village of the valley and is located in picturesque location at an altitude of 1,500 m a.s.l. The name, in German Unser Frau, literally translated means "Our Lady". The history of the village starts in the year 1304 with the discovery of a 13 cm high statue of the Virgin Mary, which is still kept in safe custody in the monstrance of the church. The oldest documented pilgrimage church in Tyrol is worth seeing: it is a late-Gothic building, converted to Baroque style in 1765, and its construction is illustrated on six pictures.
Inspired by the finding of Oetzi, at the edge of Madonna di Senales there is an interesting museum called "ArcheoParc Val Senales". This museum provides information on the lives of people living in the period of the Iceman. In the open air area, there are Neolithic huts, and from here you can see the Giogo di Tisa, the place of discovery of the Iceman. Furthermore, 15 hiking paths make you best explore the landscape of the valley.
Madonna di Senales is an ideal place for all those who seek relaxation, providing great conditions for hiking in summer months. Great conditions on the slopes from autumn to May, however, is what you can expect in the Val Senales Glacier skiing area, which is only a stone's throw away.
