Valtina is located on a sunny southern slope of the Val Passiria at an altitude of 1,362 m. It is the largest village after the main one that belongs to the municipality of San Leonardo in Passiria and is located about 8 km in the north-east of San Leonardo along the road to the Passo del Giovo. This road is particularly popular with motorcyclists in summertime. Valtina has got some approx. 300 inhabitants, among them also some personalities, e.g. the extraordinary musician Herbert Pixner, founder of the Herbert Pixner Projekt, and ex-ski racer Werner Heel.
Agriculture has got an important role to play in Valtina, many farms date back to the 13th century. In summer the village is a popular starting point for hikes, such as to the Sailtalerjoch, further on to the Bärengrübl, to S. Anna and back to the village. In winter Valtina is only a stone's throw away from the Racines-Giovo skiing area, offering 25 km of ski slopes. Furthermore the village and its surroundings offer cross-country ski trails as well as a children's toboggan run, starting at the road to the Passo del Giovo.
