The little village of Gaveis is located at 1,278 m a.s.l. above Caines and Rifiano, on the slopes of the Gruppo di Tessa. The mountain farms of Gaveis, forming a scattered settlement, are spread above the Alta Via Meranese, where the Valle di Sopranes branches off from the Val Passiria valley.

The fabulous scenery surrounding Gaveis offer a wide variety of possibilities regarding hikes, e.g. to the Rifugio Lungovalle or even higher to the Rifugio Hahnenkamm and the Oibsell pastures. Beneath the village, there are the Alta Via Meranese and the Roggia di Caines and Rifiano paths snaking along the ancient irrigation canal. This area is above all worth a visit in spring and autumn.
