The glacial mills are the main attraction of the mountain village of Plata in Alta Val Passiria

The mountain village of Plata is located at an altitude of 1,146 m and has got some 245 inhabitants. Plata boasts a considerable number of ancient farmsteads, mills, sawmills and lime ovens, which provide this place an original character. As far as excursion destinations are concerned, we recommend you a walk to the so-called Stieber Waterfall, which cascades first 19 metres, then 18 metres into the depth and can best be admired from a new panoramic bridge.
Also other attractions are closely connected with the element ofwater, that are the ca. 15 glacial mills of Plata. These primeval natural monuments of various sizes are known as Giant’s Kettles. The largest, however, is 5 - 6 metres deep and has a diameter of 10.5 metres. Absolutely worth seeing!
