Located at 1,419 m a.s.l., the village with its 100 inhabitants is located on a little elevation above the Passirio river. From Corvara in Passiria the homonymous valley stretches up the Passo del Rombo. Mainly characterised by agriculture, once upon a time there has also been a lake in the village, which has emerged around 1400. Due to the fact that its dam broke several times and the lake flooded the area, this water used to be called "Kummersee", which literally translated means "lake of sorrow". Today a marked trail surrounds its former shores.
The Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park provides ideal terrain for walking. One of the most popular hiking destinations is the adventure mine of Monteneve, which you can reach in a 2 hours' walk starting at the road to Passo del Rombo. This road, a former bridle path, connects the Val Passiria to the Oetztal valley. Along the road there are five walk-in sculptures providing information on the surroundings, which have been implemented in the frame of a trans-border project.
By the way, Corvara in Val Passiria is also a very popular place with ice climbers, as it is site of one of the most fabulous ice climbing facilities of Europe. In January it is venue for the international ice climbing competition Icefight.
