Hikers might be familiar with the Val Passiria, which is also a popular destination for skiers and ice climbers
Not only from a climatic viewpoint, the Val Passiria valley can be split in two parts. While the lower part of the valley boasts a rather gentle climate favouring the growth of apple orchards and grapevines, the upper Val Passiria is a rather mountainous area, offering fresh and healthy mountain air. Due to the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park, the fabulous hiking routes such as the Alta Via di Merano and the highly diversified flora and fauna, the Val Passiria is an ideal trekking and hiking destination. One of the most fantastic hiking destinations are by the way the Sopranes Lakes, the largest high alpine lake district in South Tyrol.
One of the most famous South Tyrolean citizens, the freedom fighter Andreas Hofer, was born in the Val Passiria. A museum still reminds of this local hero. Horse riding or playing golf on the 18-hole golf course of San Martino in Passiria, canyoning or rafting - the valley is able to satisfy all your needs. In winter, the lovely hamlet of Plan turns into a great place for skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding alike.
At an altitude of 2,355 m you come across the Monteneve adventure mine. From mid June to mid October it can be reached by foot. To get there you can choose from several hiking routes, all of them starting near the road towards Passo del Rombo. And don't miss the hilarious ride with the adventurous miners' railway.
