Verano is located at a sunny terrace at 1,204 m a.s.l. and offers a natural cinema
On the sunny terrace of the Monzoccolo, high above the orographic left side of the Val d’Adige, there is Verano, located only a stone’s throw from Avelengo and Meltina. The municipal area includes the villages of Eschio, Hinterkofl, Unterdorf and the Leadner alpine pasture, which are all located in idyllic position. Verano can also be reached by funicular starting from Postal.
Not only the panorama from the village is, however, impressive, but also the village itself offers several attractive sights. The so-called Rotseinkogel, Beimsteinkogel and Untersteinkogel are three rounded mountain tops that are unique in South Tyrol. Also worth seing are the hay roofs of the Spitzegger, Tötnmoar, Lagratter and Gfrar farmsteads, which are of Baiuvarii origins. The parish church of Verano dates back to the 14th century and boasts a neo-Gothic winged altar.
The area surrounding Verano offers a series of refreshing excursion destinations. The outstanding destination is, however, the so-called “Knottnkino”, which is a panoramic rock spur above the village. From this amazing spot of land you can enjoy a view on the entire Val d’Adige, Mount Penegal, the Dolomites, the Corno Bianco, the Val d’Ultimo, the Tessa mountain group, the valley basin of Merano and the Val Passiria.
