Tirolo represents the heart of the municipality and is located at 594 m a.s.l. Tirolo is not only accessible via the road, but also by a chairlift that starts in the town of Merano, which is by the way ideal for a shopping trip.
From a cultural viewpoint, Tirolo has got much to offer, such as the Johanneum in Via Seminario, a former episcopal residence hall that has been named after his founder. The eye-catcher, however, is Castel Tirolo, which today hosts the Provincial Museum of Culture and Local History. Underneath this historic walls, there is Castel Fontana hosting the Agriculture Museum. The parish church of Tirolo, however, has been consecrated to John Baptist and is the most ancient missionary and baptism church dedicated to this patron saint in the surroundings.
The area of the Muta di Sopra, which can be reached within 5 minutes only by the Hochmuth funicular, is a real hiking paradise offering a wide range of trails, from the Alta Via Meranese to the Sopranes Lakes. Also worthwhile is a hike on the "Tiroler Weg/Sentiero del Tirolo“ trail, the Apple Trail, the path to Caines or Ora Castle, which is a mansion dating back to the 13th century, that is still today inhabited and can therefore not be visited.
An afternoon in the outdoor pool leisure time facility “Am Wasserpark“, a walk in the Burglehen Park at the entrance of the village with natural pond and the horse for kids called "Jakob“, a captor's flight performance in the bird care centre, bowling in the cultural centre, a beach volley match on the sand fields or simply shopping or strolling along the pedestrian road, again and again Tirolo is worth a visit.
