At Monte San Zeno, located at the valley entrance to the Val Passiria, Tirolo borders on the town of Merano

Monte San Zeno is located at the foot of the Monte Muta, high above the roofs of Merano and defines the rock on which the Romans constructed a castle. Castello San Zeno is the name of this historic mansion, which by the way offers a fabulous view on the Val d'Adige and Val Passiria. Long ago, the Castrum Majense, so to speak the original centre of Merano, extended right here.
Beneath the little settlement, directly at the slope oriented towards Merano, the Gilf Promenade stretches. At the Torre Polveriera tower this popular walking trail crosses the Tappeiner Promenade. Absolutely ideal for enjoying the sun also in winter months. By the way, between the rocks prickly pears, cypresses and lemon trees flourish.
