Scena, a former agricultural village, is located on a sun-drenched panorama hill above the city of Merano, that is only 4 km away. The localities belonging to Scena, which are Verdines, San Giorgio, Talle and Montescena, stretch from the border of Merano at 360 m a.s.l. up to the mountain peaks of the Sarentino Alps with the local mountains of Monte Ivigna and Hirzer.
Due to its location, its varied offer regarding leisure time activities, its mild climate with 300 sunny days per year, Scena with its 2,900 inhabitants has become an attractive holiday destination. Already in Roman times this territory was settled, which is testified by coins excavated in the village.
Worth seeing are not only the ancient and the new parish church, but also the mausoleum, which is the grave of the archduke Johann and his wife. By the way, Castel Scena is still today inhabited by his descendants. If you would like to know more about the history of the village, join the weekly guided tours across the village.
The Scena-Hirzer-Merano 2000 nature fitness park, the walking trails Roggia di Scena and Roggia di Verdines, the Taser high-rope-course, the varied hiking network and a walk to the city of Merano are going to make you move in your holidays. To make your vacation a lasting experience, Scena offers a wide range of events the whole year round, such as the gastronomic week “Schenner Bauernkuchl“, the “Schenner Langes“, the summer nights with live music or Sunny's animation programme.
