Stava

Not only the Fun Train Station, but also Juval Castle and its MMM are worth a visit in Stava

The village of Stava, with some 350 inhabitants, lies at the valley entrance of the Val Senales at about 550 m a.s.l. The massive rock face at the valley entrance, the orchards as well as Castel Juval make the scenery picturesque. Jewel of the village is the church, a Romanesque construction which was reconsecrated in 1638. An impressive coat of arms chiselled in stone adorns the façade above the pointed-arch portal.

An excursion destination that you absolutely do not have to miss in your family holidays is the Adventure Train Station of Stava: make a journey back in time on a draisine ride along a 500 m long railway track, do a steam train ride, watch the steam locomotive or the 800 m long railway line en miniature, amusing not only for kids.

Another attraction is Castel Juval, a castle complex that could be defined as a total work of art. Reinhold Messner made this castle his adopted Home and dedicated the museum he established inside the legendary castle to the “Myth of the mountain“. This is where you can see a vast collection of Tibetan pieces of art as well as masks from all over the world. Also a botanic path as well as the “Unterortl“ Winery are part of this castle ensemble. By the way, the castle is accessible via the pleasant walking trail Roggia di Stava, starting in Ciardes and stretching all along the Monte Sole, until it reaches the castle hill.
