Sirmiano di Sopra, located at 920 m a.s.l., can be reached passing by Castel Schwanburg and following the road on the right. The mountain village is mainly made up of farms that have been built round the S. Apollonia hill, on which the small but mighty Apollonia church rises.
This little church was built on ancient settlement territory and dates back to the 12th or 13th century, a fact that is proved by a Bronze bracelet that was excavated right here. If you would like to visit the church, get the keys at the near Apollonia restaurant. By the way, this site is not only worthwhile due to its church, but also due to the fabulous view on the Dolomites, the Sarentino Alps and the Gruppo di Tessa mountains.
As far as hiking is concerned, we recommend you to make a walk to Gaido, where you come upon the Alta Via d'Appiano leading to the neighbouring Oltradige. Also worthwhile is a walk to the S. Giacomo church at Grissiano, where you can also find some taverns to stop for a pleasant brake.
