The locality of Sinigo belongs to the city of Merano and is located some 4 km in the south of the city centre. Its origins are closely connected with the settlement policy in fascist Italy in the 1920s and 1930s. This is where national industrial established themselves, and where residential quarters for immigrated working-class families have been built.
Today one of the main companies of Sinigo is Memc, producer of solar panels, also conducting research in the field of renewable energy and new technologies. Sinigo has preserved its small-town character and is today surrounded by parks and fruit orchards.
