Foiana is located above Lana and offers a farmers’ museum providing an insight into our grandparents’ everyday life
Boasting 1,200 inhabitants and located at 700 m a.s.l., Foiana can be reached by following the road to Passo Palade for about 3 km. Its location alone, set in the heart of vineyards, chestnut forests and orchards, as well as the breathtaking view on the Valle dell'Adige right up to the Catinaccio, make this village a worthwhile destination. A particularly impressive season is autumn, thanks to the wide variety of glorious colours in nature. This season is also perfect for a pleasant "Törggele“ evening, combined with a hike on the South Tyrolean Chestnut Path or a visit to the "Chestnut Festival“.
For its altitude, Foiana is sometimes also referred to as "climatic health resort“, ideal for mountain biking, Nordic walking and hiking. In fact, a walk can perfectly be combined with a visit to some ancient ruins such as the Mayerburg Castle, dating back to the 12th century.
An absolute must-do is a little excursion to the farmers' museum of Foiana, hosted by the traditional Bauernbadl. Objects of everyday farmers' lives make visitors get an idea of the life in the times of our grandparents in the pre-industrial era. By the way: the most famous citizen, known on a world-wide scale by sports enthusiasts, is Armin Zöggeler, a luge athlete that has won five Olympic medals as well as numerous world cups.
