The village of Avelengo is the centre of the municipality of Avelengo and is also site of the S. Giovanni Parish Church, which boasts a prehistoric stone relief at the exterior façade. Avelengo is regarded as the home of the good-natured and enduring blond horse breed of the Haflinger, even if its origin actually lies in the Val Venosta valley.
Worth a visit is also the ambry between the Via Locherweg and the access to the Nusserhof farm. This Gothic wayside cross dates back to the period of the pest around 1600 and was entirely renovated. Avelengo village is also starting point for hikes, for example to the Alpe di Verano and the Wurzeralm alpine pasture. Moreover you can reach the so-called "Knottnkino“ in Verano, a spectacular natural cinema.
