This small skiing area can be reached from Lana by taking the funicular. Alone the funicular ride is an adventure, as it is the second oldest overhead rail throughout Europe. Constructed in 1912 and modernised in 1952, 2006 and 2022/2023, today it takes you from 328 to 1,486 m a.s.l. within only 6 minutes.
The skiing area at Monte San Vigilio is above all famous with families and those who love nature. The gentle slopes, the astonishingly beautiful view from the Val d'Adige to the Dolomites and last but not least the hotel vigilius mountain resort, designed by Matteo Thun, make Monte San Vigilio a unique place.
Despite of its modest size, it is one of the 15 skiing areas belonging to the Ortles Ski Carousel. The Seehofstrecke and Jocherstrecke are ideal slopes for beginners and less experienced skiers, while the "race course" (Rennstrecke) is reserved for experienced skiers. A 2 km long toboggan run and a little ice skating ground complete the offer of the Monte San Vigilio skiing area. And if you seek tranquillity, we recommend you Monte San Vigilio for a winter walk...
