Hike to the Rocky Men

The hike starts at Verano, accessible also by cable car from Postal. Following the signpost no. 16 we walk past the restaurant Grüner Baum and the Leadner Alm hut. From there we continue on path no. 11 to the Giogo dei Prati. After 3.5 hours we reach the Rocky Men (Stoanerne Mandln).

This place is special because of more than 100 small stone figures, which are situated around the mountain cross of Schöneck. Their origins are not clear - the theories reach from a shepherds' and hikers' pastime to a Celtic cult site, which was later a meeting place for witches. However, it is a magical place, it can almost be considered the Stonehenge of the Alpi Sarentine!

For the way back we choose the path with the signpost K to the Möltner Kaser. Passing by the Waldbichl hut we reach the guesthouse Grüner Baum and Verano (approx. 3 hours).

Please note: Alternative path: if you want to start from Avelengo instead of Verano, follow the path no. 2 passing by the Wurzer hut and the Verano hut to the Giogo dei Prati. From there you can reach the Rocky Men on path no. 11. The way back to Avelengo is the same. The distance and the difference in altitude of this tour are a bit less than of the one starting at Verano.
