Starting from the hamlet of Außerhütt (Capanne di Fuori), we hike along the path no. 10 to the Alpe Formazon mountain hut and through alpine terrain up to the Seabl Lake at 2,265 m a.s.l

In a remote side valley of the Alta Val Passiria lies the Formazon Alm mountain hut (also Farmazon Alm), surrounded by green meadows, moorland and the majestic peaks of the Tessa Group. This is the first stage of our tour. We start in Außerhütt, a hamlet on the road between Plata and Plan in Alta Val Passiria. There is a small car park right next to the bus stop, and this is where you will also find the first signpost to the Formazon Alm. We follow the forest path uphill. After about one kilometre, the hiking trail branches off to the left at a bend, crosses the Formazon stream and leads up through the valley to the mountain hut.
After approximately one hour, we have reached the mountain hut. We decide to lengthen the hike and continue uphill to the "Seabl", a small lake at 2,265 m a.s.l. Unfortunately we realise that there is no recognisable path nor is it indicated on the streetmaps. Fortunately the innkeeper provides us with the right indications on the direction we have to take. Up the meadow slope, we find a path that is partially recognisable. Following it, we finally reach a plateau directly below Mt. Kolbenspitze where the small isolated mountain lake lies.
We return along the same route and of course we stop at the well-known Formazon Alm mountain hut. While the section to the mountain hut is considered an easy one (those who prefer to take an even easier path can stay on the forest path), the section up to Lake Seabl is a bit more challenging, as it is in part steep and in an area without any marked paths. Sturdy shoes and hiking poles are essential for this hike.
