It is the time to stay inside again more and more and substantial food is dished up. These conditions are perfect for celebrating in Merano and surroundings.
Throughout South Tyrol the sweet chestnuts must not be missing on the menu in this autumnal period. Also in the area of Merano and surroundings the "Keschtnriggl" has its fixed place. The caterers become creative and spoil their guests with dishes around the sweet fruit for two weeks, from the middle until the end of October. Also arts, cookery courses and lectures are part of the events around the "Keschtn", as the sweet chestnuts are called in South Tyrol.
By the way: the above mentioned "Keschtnriggl" (in the picture) is used to peel the chestnuts. They are filled in the bucket, shaken and like this the shell is peeled off.
