Rules and Regulations for Dog Owners

In order to be able to spend relaxing holidays with your dog in Merano and its surroundings, please consider a few things, which have to be observed when crossing the border and on site

Entry requirements:
A properly completed EU passport for your dog has to be carried along, this you get from your veterinarian. In the passport the required anti-rabies vaccination must appear. It must be done at least 21 days before coming to South Tyrol.

Moreover your four-legged friend needs a microchip for clear identification. Dogs, which were marked before the 3rd of July 2011 for the first time, may have a clearly readable tattoo. Puppies younger than three months must not entry Italy.

Obligations for dog owners:
In Italy there is the mandatory use of dog leads, also a muzzle always has to be carried along.

And last but not least – it is your duty to remove the dog excrement.

Please check also the local regulations of the respective destination: The single municipalities have the right to determine their own rules.
