The mildly radioactive thermal waters offer harmony and recreation for body, soul and spirit
The thermal water from the nearby Monte San Vigilio is rich in radon, a radioactive noble gas. Known for its therapeutic properties, it has been pumped since the 60s and is now used for radon inhalations and radon baths. Due to the radon concentration the water is classified as "mildly radioactive" and boasts a variety of therapeutic properties:
- soothing and pain-relieving effects on the central and peripheral nervous systems (ideally-suited to treat osteoarthritis and other disorders of the bones, joints and muscles)
- dilatation of the peripheral vessels with antihypertensive effects (especially indicated for women with chronic disorders of the veins)
- positive effects on the respiratory system (strengthening the natural resistance of the respiratory tract)
The therapies are however only available to patients who have undergone a prior medical check-up with the resident physician of the Merano Thermal Baths.
