The 2,469 m high Monte Chiodo (Nagelstein in German) is a panoramic mountain in summertime and in winter a popular destination for those who love snow-shoeing. Down in the valley, there is Fontana Bianca (1,855 m a.s.l.) and its homonymous lake, which is also starting point for the tour on the Monte Chiodo, which takes about 2 hours.
The trail 101 takes from Fontana Bianca to the Malga dei Pini (2,037 m a.s.l.), where cheese and butter are still home-made. Sometimes also a horse-drawn carriage ride is offered, taking visitors from Fontana Bianca to the Alpine pasture. Don't miss the local delicacies served in this place, such as the dumpling soup and an afternoon snack with bacon.
The exhausting last passage is rewarded with a breathtaking view on the Val d'Ultimo. The valley floor is flanked by the majestic mountains of the Val d'Ultimo. Back to the starting point, we recommend you a stop at the tavern "Knödelmoidl" in Fontana Bianca.
