Tradition and diversity come together in the Kurhaus of Merano on the occasion of the Music Weeks
The former Music Weeks of Merano – now Südtirol Festival Merano.Meran – have been brought into being in 1986 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the spa town and provided an updraught to the city life. From the very beginning top-class music characterised this festival and for this reason within a very short time this festival has become a real success.
Today the Merano Music Weeks are a renowned event even far beyond the borders. Many orchestras from Budapest, Israel, London, Paris, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Prague and Warsaw have participated so far. The venue of the festival, which is the Kursaal of Merano, attaches a charming atmosphere to the event. This hall has been planned by the Viennese architect Friedrich Ohmann and is one of the most beautiful concert halls all over Europe built in liberty style.
The programme of the festival includes three concert series. Venue of the crossover series "Colours of Music" including jazz and world music is the Municipal Theatre, while the chamber music series is held in the Pavillon des Fleurs. However, heart of the Merano Music Weeks are still the symphony concerts in the Kursaal in the centre of Merano.
