Built by archduke Sigismund of Austria right behind the local townhall, the small but mighty castle actually dates back to the 15th century.
Worth seeing in the Prince’s Castle Museum are the chapel with a fascinating 16th century fresco, the historical arms and a collection of historical instruments as well as antique furniture, kitchen utensils and portraits. The Prince's Castle Merano stays open every year from April to early January, Monday rest day. It remains closed during the months from early January to April.
Season start 2025 on April 15.
