The ancient Gothic Kaser hut in the high valley called Pfistrad, located north-east of San Leonardo in Passiria, hosts one of the few alp museums ever.
The hut is one of the oldest wooden constructions of South Tyrol and protected monument since 1982. In the showroom, realised by MuseumPasseier in 2000, visitors can experience in a vivid way life on the alpine pastures now and then, and are informed about alpine farming and living in Middle Ages in a very authentic way.
In order to reach Malga Pfistrad (Pfistrad-Alm) at 1,350 m a.s.l., you need to walk for 2.5 hours. The hike starts in the centre of San Leonardo in Passiria and follows the path no. 13 and the signposting "St Anna". In summer the alpine pasture is farmed and the showroom is free accessible. Near the mountain pasture there's also the late Baroque St. Anna chapel, dating back to 1796.
