Širom
Info
Description
The Slovenian trio is without doubt the most unique and acclaimed indigenous musical phenomenon of recent years. Theirs is an “imaginary” and “from a parallel universe” folk, after all, everything is already encapsulated in their name. In Slovenian, širom means “to go far” and “everywhere”, and this semantic breadth renders well the idea of a music in motion, capable of capturing and interweaving heterogeneous modes and influences, bringing multiplicity to synthesis. In the repertoire, a vast body of sound finds expression, which not only draws on tradition (viola, ocarina, mizmar, ribab, daf, balafon, guembri, banjo, hurdy-gurdy, lute, tambura brač, carillon) but also makes use of self-made objects. Despite such instrumental richness, the sound remains minimalist and has a shamanic quality, moving in the dialectic between darkness and light, mystery and revelation. Their performances are magnetic and involve listeners in a ritualistic, powerful and immersive experience.
